Welcome and Week at a glance

Musselman Library will host its first annual Celebrate the Library Week, February 10-14, 2014.

This week is a special time for discovery and community for students, faculty, staff, and emeriti. We'll feature a variety of activities, so use this guide to mark your planners. We hope to see you often!

Celebrate Week at a glance:

Monday: Celebrate Launch and opening of Favorite READS display

Tuesday: Black History Month display and author program with J. Denny Weaver

Wellness Wednesday: demos and more all day!

Thursday:  OPEN HOUSE from 10am - 3pm; tours, demos, refreshments

Friday Finale: 9:30 - 10:30am with refreshments and prize drawing


Monday, February 10

Celebrate Week Launch Party

7:30am - 9:30am, Reading Room

Coffee and donuts will help us kick off this week of celebration, with prizes for the first 50 attendees.  Enter our prize drawing, which will take place at the end of the week during the Friday Finale!


Opening of Favorite READS notable books display

For this display, provide your copy (or use the library copy) of a book that has been significant or important for you or just an all-time favorite.  There will be a form for you to add to the book, with a short description of why this book is significant, important, or of special interest.   Books can be added all through the week, starting Monday at the Celebrate Launch.   For any questions about Favorite READS, please contact Paul Weaver, research librarian.


Tuesday, February 11

Opening of Black History Month display

In honor of Black History Month, we'll open a themed display of Black History resources in the library's Nord Room. We'll feature general Black History resources from the library's collections, information on Black History at Bluffton University, and black librarians who have influenced libraries throughout history.  The display will be available all week and throughout the month of February.


Program and reception with J. Denny Weaver

4:00pm, Reading Room

J. Denny Weaver is faculty emeritus professor of religion and author of the recently released book, The Nonviolent God.  Weaver will share thoughts on his work with this book.  There will be a book signing and books available for purchase.  Arts & Lecture credit is available for this event.

Attention, students!  We'll have a drawing for two student attendees to receive a copy of The Nonviolent God.

Wednesday, February 12

Today is Wellness Wednesday!  Take a look at our wellness-themed schedule:


Nutrition Fair

9:00am - 11:00am in the Reading Room

Jeanna Haggard’s Nutrition Education & Communication students will host a nutrition fair, complete with cooking and food preparation demos. 


Opening of Healthy Eating and Fitness book display

Books on nutrition, wellness, fitness, and cooking from the library's collections will all be on display and available for browsing.


Fitness Without a Gym demo

3:30pm - 4:00pm in the Reading Room

Shawn Frost, Bluffton health, fitness, and sports science major, will demonstrate simple fitness techniques you can do with easy-to-find home fitness equipment.



7:00pm - 8:00pm in the fourth floor Seminar Room

Bluffton student Tricia Latimer will lead a free Yoga class.


SURPRISE unveiling...

At some point today, we'll unwrap some new furniture on the library's main floor!
